트랜잭션(Transaction)의 예외(Exception)에 따른 롤백 처리

서론

이전에 Java의 Checked Exception과 UnChecked Exception에 대해 정리한 적이 있습니다. 다시 요약하면 RuntimeException을 상속하지 않는 클래스는 Checked Exception, 상속한 클래스는 Unchecked Exception이며, Checked Exception은 try-catch을 통해 예외를 꼭 처리해 주어야 컴파일에서 오류가 발생하지 않습니다.

이번 포스팅에서는 이러한 각각의 예외들에 대하여 Transaction에서 롤백이 어떻게 반영되는지 한번 정리해 보겠습니다.

Checked Exception에서의 Transaction 처리

먼저 Chekced Exception의 트랜잭션 예제입니다. 위의 경우는 롤백이 적용되지 않습니다.

또한 당연하게도 throw가 로직 위로 가게 되면 컴파일 단계에서 오류가 발생합니다.

그럼 다음과 같이 예외처리를 하지 않아도 되는 Unchecked Exception 타입인 RuntimeException을 try-catch를 적용해 예외를 처리를 하면서 던졌을 때는 어떨까요?

결과는 롤백이 적용되지 않습니다. RuntimeException을 예외로 던졌지만 실질적으로 try-catch를 통해 예외를 처리를 확인했기 때문입니다. 더 자세히 알아보면 @Transaction을 통한 선언적 트랜잭션 관리 방식은 기본적으로 프록시 방식의 AOP가 적용되기 때문입니다.

위 코드는 트랜잭션 프록시의 간단한 예제 코드입니다. 트랜잭션 프록시가 트랜잭션 처리 로직을 수행할 때 위 클래스를 새로 만들어 로직을 수행하게 됩니다. 따라서 try-catch를 통해 catch에서 예외 처리를 확인했기 때문에 프록시까지 예외가 전달되지 않아 프록시 객체가 RuntimeException을 인지하지 못하기 때문입니다.

 

UnChecked Exception에서의 Transaction 처리

다음과 같이 RuntimeException을 try-catch를 통해 예외 처리 하지 않았을 시에는 롤백이 적용되며 변경사항이 저장되지 않습니다.

 

왜 Checked Exception은 롤백되지 않을까?

그렇다면 왜 Checked Exception은 롤백이 되지 않을까요?

이유는 Spring은 @Transaction 어노테이션에 대해 Runtime Exception과 Error에 대해서만 default로 롤백이 적용되도록 설정되어 있기 때문입니다. 이에 대해 설명하면 아래의 코드는 서로 동일합니다.

@Transactional(rollbackFor = {RuntimeException.class, Error.class})

즉, 기본적으로 UnChecked Exception(RuntimeException)에서만 롤백이 되며, Checked Exception(IOException, SQLException 등)에서는 롤백이 되지 않습니다. 따라서 어노테이션을 사용하든 AOP에 설정을 하든 spring은 Unchecked Exception(RuntimeException)과 Error 발생 시 롤백 적용을 기본으로 하도록 설정됩니다.

커스텀하기 위해서는 위와 같이 직접 롤백을 적용하거나 제외할 예외를 직접 명시해주어야 합니다. 여기서 중요한 점은 위에서 잠깐 설명했지만 try-catch를 통해 예외처리를 했을 경우에는 rollbackFor을 설정하더라도 적용이 되지 않기 때문에 catch내에서 강제로 throw를 해주어야 롤백이 적용됩니다.

 

정리

개발자가 컴파일 시 예측/처리 가능한 예외의 처리를 개발자에게 강제하기 위해 Checked Exception은 스프링에서 제공하는 트랜잭션에서의 롤백의 기본 정책에 포함되지 않습니다. 따라서 이를 커스텀하기 위해서는 Transaction 어노테이션에서 rollbackFor 혹은 noRollbackFor을 통해 직접 세팅해 주어야 합니다.

• try-catch를 통해 예외를 확인하면 롤백 적용 X
• Unchecked Exception은 default 세팅으로 롤백 적용 O
• Unchekced Exception도 try-catch를 통해 예외 확인 시 롤백 적용 X
